Beware of Inept Doctors
I’ve talked a lot about avoiding doctors who are:
- Inept
- Don’t care
- Think they know it all and are…
- Condescending, thinking that you can’t possibly understand anything.
Here are a five warning signs to look out for when evaluating a doctor.
-
An overly confident attitude.
If your doctor seems to be too sure of himself or herself and the diagnosis, it might be time to get a second opinion. Remember, no doctor is perfect, and even the most experienced ones can make mistakes.
-
Lack of communication
If your doctor won’t listen to you or is not taking the time to explain your diagnosis, treatments, and medications, it could be a sign that they don’t fully understand the situation. Make sure you ask questions and get all the details you need to feel comfortable with your care.
-
A doctor who is unwilling to work with other medical professionals.
This is especially important if your condition requires a team of specialists. Your doctor should be willing to collaborate with other doctors and be able to handle complex cases.
-
A doctor who is unwilling to say “I don’t know”.
Remember, no doctor can know everything. A good doctor who is confident in his own field or discipline will not hesitate to say “I don’t know”, and possibly suggest a different type of doctor.
-
Pay attention to how your doctor handles emergencies.
If your doctor seems unprepared or overwhelmed in an emergency situation, it might be time to find another doctor.
While it’s important to trust your doctor, it’s also important to be aware of the risks and signs of an incompetent doctor. Remember, you have the right to get the best care possible, and if your doctor isn’t meeting that standard, it’s time to find a new one.
Good luck on your journey to health, and stay safe!
